Monday Memes - So My Therapist Says I Use Humor to Avoid Trauma... Thanks?

Let's face it, we all have our coping mechanisms. Some people rewatch childhood comfort shows, some people bury themselves under work, and some of us, well, we turn life's tragedies into punchlines. Hey, if laughter is the best medicine, we're practically health gurus, right?

But what if your therapist throws shade on your comedic brilliance, like in this meme? Here's the deal: using humor to deflect serious emotions is totally normal. It can help us lighten the mood and distance ourselves from painful experiences. Sometimes, laughter is the only way we can deal with what life throws our way.

But here's the thing therapists love to point out (because they get paid to): humor shouldn't be the only way you deal with things. If you find yourself constantly deflecting with jokes instead of processing your emotions, it might be time to dig a little deeper.

Think of it this way: bottling up your feelings is like leaving the fridge door open. Sure, things might seem okay for a while, but eventually, the stink is gonna hit you (and maybe everyone around you). So, don't be afraid to let your therapist see the not-so-funny parts too. They're there to listen, laugh (with you, not at you), and help you navigate the messy, hilarious thing called life.

And hey, if your therapist is a real stick in the mud about your jokes, maybe it's time to find a new one with a better sense of humor. (Just kidding... mostly.)
